Responding to the Israeli government’s bombing of a school in Gaza described by the UN as ‘criminal’, Acting Greens Leader, Adam Bandt MP, has urged Tony Abbott to do more to stop the conflict.
“Tony Abbott has condemned Hamas but has said virtually nothing about Israel’s third bombing of a school,” said Mr Bandt.
“Tony Abbott cannot stand idly by while the Israeli government bombs schools or while our ally, the US, re-arms the Israeli Defence Force.
“Tony Abbott has to use all means at his disposal to press for peace, including calling on the US to halt rearming the Israeli armed forces.
“Being an ally of the US and having a seat on the UN Security Council gives us precious leverage but Tony Abbott is failing to use it to push for peace,” said Mr Bandt.
