The official opening of the Global Gongresses brought a massive local and international media response in Dakar, Senegal. The video broadcast media dominated the front row of the Congress plenary venue and key speakes were in high demand, after the opening, in the media scrums.
Media attention was immense throughout the event and speakers included Papa Meissa Dieng, Senegalese FEDES party, Frank Habineza, founding president of the of the Rwanda Green Party of Rwanda and President of the African Green Federation, Haider el Ali, President of FEDES, the national Senegalese Green party, Monica Frassoni, co-chair for the European Green Party.
National and local politicians also attended to event and drew additional interest from the media.
In the post event interviews, Haider El Ali, a world-renowned Senegalese conservationist and key ecological leader in Africa, was a key focus of attention. Haider has been instrumental in bringing key issues of specific Senegalese impact to the fore and has been instrumental in rasing these issues, through the Green movement, to a worldwide audience.
In the crowd, attending the opening ceremonny, was Bob Brown, Australian senator, the inaugural Parliamentary Leader of the Australian Greens, and Jacqueline Cremers, Secretary General of the European Green Party.
Over 400 representatives attended the event that ended with entertainment by two local Senegalese dance troupes.
