On 25 April 2015 a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal at 11:56am and several aftershocks followed. The April 25 and May 12 earthquakes were among the deadliest natural disasters to occur in Nepal.
The earthquakes caused a significant loss of human lives, property and damaged cherished heritage sites. Schools, hospitals and local clinics, infrastructure including roads and drinking water networks have suffered immensely. The death toll has already surpassed 8,800 and over 21,300 people have been injured. Thousands of people have lost their homes and are still living in temporary shelters, including the families of the members and leaders of Nepali Greens. Luckily, no Green members are physically injured and all are safe.
Immediately following the earthquake, the Nepali Greens began providing services for rural and remote communities who are the most marginalised by the earthquake.
The victims or survivors were found to have spent hard days without food and shelter. The Nepali Greens helped them to receive temporary shelter by providing tents.
Three community kitchens in three devastated communities were also setup. Young people and volunteers were mobnilised in the field to cook foods and serve the hungry with nutritious, healthy and adequate foods. For over a month the Nepali Greens fed people, provided psychological support services and facilitated the survivors to return to normal life despite having lost their loved ones and possessions.
Now, we are entering into the next phase of rehabilitation and community reconstruction. Our main objective is to make a safer and sustainable place to live for all.

The monsoon season is now knocking at the door. And even before the onset of monsoon the country is witnessing devastating landslides that have already killed 53 people, sweeping off villages and destroying houses. We have recently learned that some communities affected by landslides are suffering from food shortages and hunger.
The Nepali Greens are getting ready to serve these communities with community kitchens. The Nepali Greens have made a commitment with genuine action and will be in the field immediately after the disaster and whenever the people are in need of service from the Greens.
