Global Greens condemn barbaric Peshawar school attack

The Global Greens strongly condemn the barbaric act of terrorism by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attacking the Peshawar school on 16 December 2014; the attack claimed 141 lives, including 132 school children.  The Global Greens urges the Government of Pakistan and the international community to bring the perpetrators to a court of justice.

The Pakistan government has indicated that TTP terrorists received direction for the Peshawar school attack from bases in Afghanistan; the Global Greens joins the Pakistan Government in calling for collaboration with other countries to protect people from terrorism.

We join the United Nations in underlining the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, and urges all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law to cooperate actively with relevant authorities in this regard.

The Global Greens express our deepest and shared condolences to the victims’ families and to the Pakistani nation for this tragedy.

More than 50,000 civilians have been killed by terrorists inside Pakistan since the start of the Afghanistan war in 2001(1).  The Global Greens reaffirms its support for a peaceful solution of regional conflicts and support for democracy.
