APGF STATEMENT
CONDEMANTION OF THE ISRAELI
ATTACKS ON LEBANON
Issued by the Asia Pacific Greens Federation
April 2026
The Asia Pacific Greens Federation (APGF) views with profound horror and unequivocal condemnation the devastating Israeli attacks on Lebanon, which have resulted in the killing of more than 250 civilians and the injury of more than 1,000 others. This latest act of aggression is a grave escalation in an already devastating war and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
According to Lebanon’s Civil Defense, Israeli airstrikes have claimed 254 lives, with most casualties concentrated in the capital Beirut, where 91 people were killed. In response to this tragedy, the Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has declared a National Day of Mourning, stating that the attacks targeted “hundreds of innocent, defenseless civilians”, a grave escalation of violence that many international legal experts note constitutes unlawful uses of force.
APGF CONDEMNS, In the strongest possible terms:
- The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure ▪ International humanitarian law is unequivocal: civilians must never be targets. The killing of over 250 people including many women and children, constitutes a war crime that demands immediate international investigation and accountability.
- The timing of these attacks ▪ These strikes came immediately after the United States and Iran entered into a two-week ceasefire. Israel announced that it does not consider Lebanon covered by this ceasefire, a position that effectively exploits diplomatic processes to intensify violence against Lebanon.
- The systematic pattern of violence ▪ Since March 2026, Lebanon has endured relentless bombardment, with over one million people displaced, entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble, and the health system collapsing under the weight of mass casualties.
APGF DEMANDS, and calls upon the international community, the United Nations, and all governments to take immediate action:
- Demand an immediate and permanent ceasefire ▪ All military operations against Lebanon must cease immediately. There is no military solution to this conflict.
- Impose an immediate arms embargo on Israel ▪ As we have previously demanded, all nations must stop the supply of lethal weapons to Israel. Governments that continue to supply arms are complicit in the killing of civilians.
- Protect civilians and civilian infrastructure ▪ Humanitarian access must be guaranteed. Schools, hospitals, and residential areas must never be targets. The international community must ensure that international humanitarian law is respected.
- Ensure accountability for war crimes ▪ The attacks on Lebanese civilians must be investigated, and those responsible must be held to account. There can be no impunity for violations of international law.
- Support Lebanon’s sovereignty and right to self-determination ▪ Lebanon’s territorial integrity and political independence must be respected. The Lebanese people have the right to determine their own future, free from foreign aggression.
APGF SOLIDARITY ▪ The APGF stands in full solidarity with the People of Lebanon, with the victims and their families, and with the Green Party of Lebanon, whose members are on the ground providing emergency relief despite facing the same dangers as their fellow citizens.
APGF CALL ▪ We call on our member parties across the Asia Pacific region and our partners in the Global Greens to:
- Amplify this condemnation through your networks and media channels • Pressure your governments to demand an immediate ceasefire
- Support humanitarian relief efforts for displaced Lebanese families
- Stand with the Green Party of Lebanon in their work for peace, justice, and ecological reconstruction
GREENS VISION FOR PEACE ▪ The APGF reiterates its founding conviction for Peace as an ecological condition. There can be no lasting security where international law is trampled, where civilians are sacrificed, and where diplomacy is abandoned for the brutality of war. The People of Lebanon and all People across the Middle East are entitled to Peace, Security, and Human Rights to determine their futures free from foreign intervention, war, and occupation.
