Global Greens Secretariat and Executive

The Global Greens Coordination (GGC) is delighted to announce that, in a major step forward, the Global Greens Secretariat will move from Australia to Brussels in 2013 with the position of Secretary becoming full-time.

The GGC met in Athens on 6-8 November in the lead up to this weekend’s European Greens Council meeting.

Decisions taken by the GGC to give effect to the resolution at the Dakar Congress in March include:

The appointment of an Executive including:

  • Margaret Blakers from Australia, as the inaugural Global Greens Convener.
  • Frank Habinza, AGF representative from Rwanda,
  • Manuel Joel Diaz Capdevilla, FPVA representative from Venezuela and
  • Keli Yen, APGN representative from Taiwan.
  • An EGP nominee will to be confirmed after this weekend’s EGP Council.
  • Juan Behrend who has played a vital role in bringing Greens together globally since 1992, has been appointed to the Executive as Global Greens Adviser.

The GGC will move to incorporate the Global Greens as an international non-profit organisation in Belgium.

The GGC is appointing three special advisers:

  • A representative of GYG
  • The host of the Dakar Congress, Papa Meissa Dieng
  • Longtime Chairperson of Green Forum, Eva Goës, to liaise with Green Institutes & foundations.

This is start of a new and exciting era for the Global Greens.  The next congress will be in Europe in 2016/2017 and we look forward to fulfilling the promise of the resolution on the Future of the Global Greens, made in Dakar – to build a vigorous and effective global organisation supporting the work of the Greens worldwide.
