New Zealand Greens Leadership in Kampala Amendment Ratification

Dr KENNEDY GRAHAM: I seek leave to move a motion without notice and without debate to note Germany’s ratification of the amendment to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and to move that New Zealand become one of the founding 30 ratifying countries needed in order to implement this amendment.

Mr SPEAKER: Leave is sought to move that motion. Is there any objection? There is none.

Dr KENNEDY GRAHAM: I move, That this House note Germany’s ratification of the amendment to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court adopted in Kampala in 2010 accepting the criminalisation of acts of aggression arising from the illegal use of force in international relations, note that this brings the number of States parties ratifying the Kampala amendment to six, and urge that New Zealand move to become one of the founding 30 ratifying countries needed by 2017 in order to implement this amendment.

Motion agreed to.
